DO WE REMAIN CONSCIOUS AFTER DEATH?
There is no such thing as “soul sleep,” as the Seventh Day Adventists claim. (Luke 16:22-31; Luke 23:43; Philippians 1:23; and 2 Corinthians 5:8).
In Revelation 6: 9-11, the tribulation martyrs called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” 11 Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, were killed just as they had been.
Three things to think about. First the martyrs knew what was happening, and asked God to avenge their blood. Second, they could speak which means they were conscious. Third, they were given a robe. That means they have been given a new body, which occurs after the rapture.
In Jesus parable of Lazarus and the rich man, the rich man was conscious, could speak, had a body that was in great pain.
Every reference in Revelation to human beings talking and worshiping in Heaven prior to the resurrection of the dead demonstrates that our spiritual beings are conscious, not sleeping, after death.
Richard DeHaan, writes in Heaven, an eternal place of hope blessing and encouragement, “When the believer dies, he departs from this life to go immediately into the presence of Christ. . . . the Christian meets Jesus face to face in his eternal home in heaven.”
