DO PEOPLE IN THE PRESENT HEAVEN SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING ON EARTH?
Verse 1 of Hebrews 12 invariably raises the question, “Can saints in Heaven see our lives here on Earth, or know what is going on?
In Revelation 6:9-11 we read that the inhabitants in the present Heaven could see what is happening on Earth. Revelation 18:20, 19:11-14; are other examples.
Angels saw Christ on Earth (1 Timothy 3:16). There are clear indications that the angels know what Is happening on earth.
In Jesus parable of Lazarus and the rich man, the rich man could see Lazarus across the chasm. (Luke 16:23-26). But then again, is this a parable for teaching purposes.
I need to point out, that this is the only parable where Jesus mentions a name. Why is this significant? A common description of a parable is that it is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. Most parables are viewed as stories to make a point. No other parable does Jesus mention a name.
When called from heaven to the Transfiguration, Moses and Elijah “appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem” (Luke 9:31). They seemed fully aware of life on earth, and what God was about to do.
Dr. Curtis Hutson, past an Independent Fundamental Baptist pastor and editor of The Sword of the Lord, writes in his booklet, Bible Answers to Questions About Heaven ” the saved in Heaven are conscious and awake” He gives several verses which he believes proves his point. Luke 15:7 and 10 says, there is more rejoicing in Heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance. He goes on to cite Hebrews 12:1, 11, and 12:1.
John Ankerberg, in a video said there is no evidence that those in Heaven know what is going on at Earth. He agrees with Beaver, why would they want to. He does go on to say that if they asked Jesus, Jesus would probably tell them.
The Bible doesn’t specifically say that people in heaven cannot look down on us, so we can’t be dogmatic. However, it is unlikely that they can. People in heaven are likely preoccupied with other things such as worshipping God and enjoying the glories of heaven.
